At Julia’s Memorial Community Garden in Vicksburg, MS, we’re sowing seeds of wellness, community, and growth, both figuratively and literally! We’re thrilled to share our upcoming event hosted by Julia’s and the strides being made at our Hattiesburg, Mississippi, garden.
Health Vision Board Event with Stonewood Apartments Seniors
On December 11th 2024, Julia’s Memorial Community garden will be hosting a health vision board event for the senior residents at Stonewood Apartments. This creative and inspiring event will encourage participants to set personal wellness goals and visualize their healthiest lives. With magazines, craft supplies, and plenty of enthusiasm, seniors will craft boards filled with images and words that resonated with their aspirations—from eating more nutritious meals to staying active and embracing positivity.
The event will also emphasize the importance of taking small, meaningful steps toward better health. Conversations buzzed with ideas for incorporating fresh produce, such as the greens from our garden, into their diets.
Progress at the Hattiesburg Garden
Meanwhile, our Hattiesburg garden continues to thrive as a beacon of growth and sustenance. Volunteers and staff have been hard at work assembling new raised garden beds, expanding our ability to grow fresh, nutritious produce for the community. These beds are not only more accessible for gardeners of all ages but also help improve soil drainage and protect plants from pests.
As winter approaches, we’re delighted to report the robust growth of our turnip, collard, and mustard greens. These hearty crops are well-suited to cooler weather, and they’ve been flourishing under the care of our dedicated team. Their vibrant green leaves are a testament to the hard work and love poured into the garden.
Maintaining the garden during the cold season requires extra effort, from mulching beds to protect against frost to ensuring a steady water supply. Our team is committed to keeping the garden productive and beautiful, even as temperatures drop. This dedication ensures that we can continue to provide fresh produce to our community and demonstrate the resilience of nature and human spirit alike.
If you’re inspired by our work, we invite you to get involved. Whether it’s attending an event or volunteering your time. Together, we can continue to nurture a healthier, more connected community.
Stay tuned for more updates as we plant seeds of hope and harvest change!
